Teatro Carillon:

A Tale from the Streets

The Company was founded in 1983 in Turin with the aim of establishing an immediate and direct connection with the audience through performance, drawing inspiration from the ancient Theatre of Saltimbanchi. The shows are designed for a diverse audience, creating a magical empathy that plays between dreams, smiles, and poetry.

Various techniques typical of the Saltimbanco actor are drawn from this type of theater, including acrobatics, stilt walking, comic gags, juggling, magic acts, puppetry, dance, and music. These techniques, combined with the actors' theatrical experiences and new artistic languages and expressions, have given life to the Street Theatre events that Teatro Carillon has performed at national and international festivals (France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Costa Rica, Hungary, the Netherlands, Greece...).

The most important schools attended by the actors include Teatro Nuovo di Torino, the Belgian mime school, theater-laboratory experiences with the actors of the Institut Aktora Teatr Laboratorium of Jerzy Grotowski, actor training experiences with Teatro Continuo di Padova, Piccolo Teatro of Pontedera, Teatro Tascabile of Bergamo, and the Living Theatre.

In recent years, the Company, in collaboration with other local entities, has defined, organized, and developed new shows, following new experimental approaches and bringing innovative forms of theatrical representation to the stage, particularly in the socio-cultural field.

Since 2015, Teatro Carillon has evolved into an interdisciplinary collective, embracing the need to incorporate new languages and experiences. More recently, the group has undergone a new transformation, welcoming new members to enhance street and community theater through multimedia languages.

The new direction seeks to integrate reflections on scenography, theatrical communication, and contemporary art through the technique of interactive videomapping, fostering the development of cross-disciplinary dynamics and introducing new professional figures from fields such as architecture and sociology.
